ARL participates in NOAA path forward for climate services

Chris Loughner participated in the NOAA Climate Connections 2.0 conference in Washington, DC, on October 29. Chris gave a brief overview of NOAA’s role in measuring and monitoring greenhouse gasses and facilitated a roundtable discussion on future needs in greenhouse gas monitoring and co-benefits of greenhouse gas emissions reductions. The goal of the conference was to bring together climate service practitioners from various NOAA line offices to connect and collaboratively work together to chart a path forward for NOAA’s climate services.

NOAA ARL helps improve the Interagency Monitoring of Protected Visual Environments Network

On October 29–30, Dr. Xinrong Ren attended the Interagency Monitoring of Protected Visual Environments (IMPROVE) Network Steering Committee meeting in Socorro, New Mexico. The meeting gathered representatives from federal and state agencies, academia, and nonprofit environmental organizations, all of whom are actively involved in the operations, data analysis, and management of the IMPROVE monitoring network. As a NOAA representative and member of the IMPROVE Steering Committee, Dr. Ren participated in discussions covering network and laboratory reviews, advancements in analytical methods, network data quality, and overall IMPROVE operations. Attendees also visited an IMPROVE monitoring site at the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, where they observed standard site operations firsthand.
