ARL Scientist Serves on AGU Global Engagement Committee

ARL scientist Nebila Lichiheb was nominated to serve a two-year appointment on AGU’s Global Engagement Committee!

Nebila has been an active member of AGU since 2017. Over the past eight years, she has served as an Outstanding Student Presentations Awards judge, promoted diversity and inclusion as a panelist at the Chapman Conference, and participated on a career panel for AGU Bridge students to promote equitable practices in graduate education.

The Global Engagement Committee facilitates discussions with AGU leaders on how best to achieve AGU’s international objectives. They identify potential partnerships with other local and international Earth and space societies and provide engagement and communication with members residing outside the US. Nebila’s scientific and academic expertise, in addition to her background and communication skills, will make her a valuable member of this committee and the AGU community.

Nebila was born and raised in Tunisia, moved to France to pursue her Master’s and Ph.D., then joined the staff at NOAA/ARL as an NRC Postdoc. As an early career environmental scientist, Nebila aims to assess the risks to human health and the environment. Her approach to science involves integrated measurement and modeling to provide more accurate forecasts and guidance in the context of emergency response. As this research field requires a collaborative effort, she has collaborated with national and international interdisciplinary teams. Nebila has also taught and mentored undergraduate and graduate students.

Her academic training and work experiences in different countries have allowed her to build an adaptation capacity, cultural awareness, and an “out of the box” mentality that will make Nebila a valuable asset to the AGU community. She is excited about this opportunity to improve her leadership and management skills and become more involved in the international network to support women in STEM.

Congratulations Nebila, we look forward to seeing your accomplishments while on this committee!
