ARL Presentations

The 2nd annual NCWCP-UMD Mini-Conference was held at the Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center (ESSIC) in College Park, MD from February 27-29, 2024.  This mini-conference is an opportunity for the various NOAA line offices in NCWCP as well as our partners at the University of Maryland to exchange of information on the various scientific and technical research activities taking place in the College Park area. ARL had a session on the first day with presentations made on the various research activities going on in ARL’s Atmospheric Sciences and Modeling Division. The session was led off by ARL’s Director, Dr. Ariel Stein, highlighting the 75 years of ARL’s work given that we have just wrapped up our 75th Anniversary celebration.  Other presentations were made by Dr. Alice Crawford regarding the tracing of the evolution and path to success of HYSPLIT; Dr. Bavand Sadeghi on his research related to volcanic emission forecasting using a case study of the 2022 Hunga Tonga eruption; Dr. Miguel Cahuich regarding -the modeling of greenhouse gas emissions for the Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD metropolitan areas; Dr. Tianfeng Chai regarding the nuclear applications and emergency response efforts of HYSPLIT; and finally Dr. Howard Diamond talked about the climate science research applications related to the U.S. Climate Reference Network.

Dr. Krishnan NOAA Engagement

Praveena Krishnan has been selected to participate in the Mid-Career Leadership Development Program (MCLDP). Beginning on March 26, 2024, this NOAA leadership development program lasts for nine months. The goal of the program is to empower federal leaders by providing career-long training that enlightens and fortifies them on their leadership journey. Dr. Krishnan was also selected to participate in the 2024 Women in Sciences Leadership workshop that will take place at NOAA’s Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL) in Princeton, NJ, from April 16 to 17, 2024.
