Enormous Press Coverage in New York

August 15, 2005

The multi-agency Urban Dispersion Program is generating a lot of attention in New York. ARL scientists are releasing tracer gas at street level, and are operating sampling stations at several fixed locations supported by three mobile laboratories. Pedestrians frequently stop and ask questions about the program.

In the first two days of the field study, there have been about 35 interviews by journalists. Coverage has been extensive on all of radio, TV, and the press. On Friday last, a reporter from the Wall Street Journal sat through an entire experimental period.

The experiment is going exceptionally well, with three experimental days now behind us. The focus so far has been on the area around Times Square.

The agencies involved are DHS, DOD, EPA, NSF, DOE, and NOAA.
