Dr. LaToya Myles Featured in AGU Session Video Focused on Diversity and Inclusion in Geosciences

ARL/ATDD’s Deputy Director, Dr. LaToya Myles, was a panelist for “Creating Inclusive and Diverse Field and Lab Environments within the Geosciences,” a live webcast session during the American Geophysical Union’s Fall meeting in December 2017.  Video of the full two-hour session is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrDPT2VWLb8. Dr. Myles was also an invited discussion leader for an AGU workshop titled “Strategies for Attracting and Advancing a Diverse Geoscience Workforce,” a topic that she’s particularly passionate about as a team member and co-investigator for Hearts of GOLD. Short for Geoscience Opportunities for Leadership in Diversity, this National Science Foundation-sponsored project aims to increase diversity in the geosciences.

As a specialist in air chemistry and measurements, Dr. Myles works to further our understanding of environmental factors and their impacts, focusing on what things get deposited and how they get deposited. Her field work to date has concentrated on ammonia in agricultural systems, but she’s expanding into coastal ecosystems as well. Dr. Myles is passionate about talking to schools and other groups about what NOAA does and how it impacts society; particularly in relation to the air we breathe daily and the wide-ranging effects of pollution.
